Background
My first animals, purchased in the summer of 1992 from two different farms, were two very capable mothers, each with a ewe lamb. These ladies left a lasting impression on me with their easy lambings and strong maternal qualities.
They set the standard for my breeding.
Breeding strategy
Discussing breeding is not entirely straightforward, as we often have different frames of reference. What cannot be measured, or clearly judged at a single glance, will always remain somewhat relative. What truly defines good maternal qualities? When is a ram considered horn-tight?
Going forward, I will try to describe what I consider good and less desirable traits. I will share photos and videos, for example of lambings and horn development at different ages.
I try to keep my animals in a way that allows me to study their characteristics, and to take those traits into as much consideration as possible in my breeding.
The lambs are born in April and May and remain until their second autumn, when I make the selection for breeding animals. They are normally not bred before that time.
